The Aviation Security (AVSEC) Course is designed to provide aviation personnel with the knowledge and practical skills required to safeguard civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference. The course is conducted in accordance with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Aviation Security Regulations, the National Civil Aviation Security Training Programme (NCASTP), and ICAO Annex 17 – Security.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of aviation security principles, threat identification, access control procedures, passenger and baggage screening, security awareness, and emergency response measures. The training prepares personnel to perform security-related duties effectively while ensuring compliance with KCAA regulatory requirements and international aviation security standards.

The syllabus covers global aviation threats, access control, and recognizing restricted items, weapons, or dangerous goods. For aircrew, the training also heavily emphasizes in-flight security measures, handling disruptive passengers, securing the flight deck, and executing effective responses to active security incidents.
Depending on the specific regulatory module (such as Aircrew or Ground), initial AVSEC training typically takes 4 to 8 hours to complete. Upon successfully passing the final assessment and scenario evaluations, participants are awarded an Aviation Security Training Certificate valid under KCAA and specific airline guidelines.
