Crew Resource Management (CRM) concerns the cognitive and interpersonal skills involved in the effective utilization of all available resources (e.g. crew members, aircraft systems and supporting facilities) to achieve safe and efficient flight operations. Safe and efficient operation depends on effective coordination and two-way communication between flight crew, cabin crew and all personnel involved in the aviation system.

Poor CRM is recognized as a leading factor in the cause of many aviation incidents and accidents. By learning more about CRM it will help reduce these incidents and accidents by better understanding how we can manage the resources around us more effectively. This course is designed for all staff involved in the day to day operations of an aviation company and covers both operations and maintenance (human factors) topics.

Course Objectives

  • To recognize those behaviors that lead to poor management of the task at hand;
  • To enhance our understanding of the resources around us that affect the task at hand;
  • To improve our decision making skills thus decreasing the risk of human-error-caused incidents.
  • To enhance awareness of human factors which may affect the safe conduct of air operations.
  • To develop CRM skills and attitudes which may extricate an aircraft operation from incipient incidents
  • To assist the delegate to apply CRM knowledge, skills and attitudes to conduct and manage aircraft operations, and integrate these techniques into the organizational culture

Learning Outcomes

Throughout the course we promote an awareness of behavioral attitudes to improve and develop communication and interpersonal relationships with all those involved in making a flight happen, incorporating the entire crew and those that support the Operation such as ground personnel and maintenance units.

The training addresses the nature of individual company operations as well as associated crew operating procedures, including areas of operations which produce particular difficulties, adverse climatological conditions and any unusual hazards.
